Also is it really that important if your elbow is tucked in? And when i take jump shots now, when i cant reach it, i jump forward and shoot with both hands! im trying to stop this but cant.ALso my legs are flying apart when i jump. one is ahead and the other is behind.almost like im running

Also, for some reason my shooting form is changing even with shots i can take. Im shooting sometimes with both hands for some reason. Im putting it up to my chest, like im chest passing it into the basket?

What is Muscle Memory? ANd should i have to do the right angle method ? Even when i use my legs i still cant reach the basket

You should check out two of our videos. The problem you have with where to hold the ball is covered in our video on the “Set Point.” To address the issue with being under-powered, check out our new video on “Getting your legs into it.” These two should point you in the right direction. If you’re still having problems, let us know and we’ll get it nailed down!

Keep up the hard work and you’ll get there!

    dark:
Do a ton of form shooting from about 6-10 feet from basket. Be most concerned about the quality of the shots versus the quantity of shots.  We build our shooting skills with muscle memory! Repeat, repeat, repeat and repeat again.

And Tom are there any excercises to become a more accurate and better shooter that you would recommend? This would be very helpful because basketball tryouts for my school team are in 2 weeks and i need to get better at shooting so i have a better chance of at least making it on theteam at all. Thanks four your consideration! Please Post!

very true… o well im doing a jump program now called air alert and can finally touch rim and im only on week 3 out of 15… so maybe ill be able to dunk like that guy soon lol

  12. ShotScienceon 20 Mar 2009 at 10:57 pm

    Beyond:
That guy is 6′6″ with a 40″ vertical!! It’s impossible to teach this! A solid Jump Program would probably help a lot, especially with a plyometric program.

  13. BEYONDILIMITon 20 Mar 2009 at 10:57 pm

yes thank you this is wat i was looking for 4 a quicker release… can you guys post something on how to dunk like the guy at the beginning of this video=)

Dark, it’s only been a week!! We’re always working on new videos.

Make sure you check out our new video on using your legs in your shot. It’s right along the lines of the questions you were asking earlier.

  18. darkwiz999on 20 Mar 2009 at 10:57 pm

Hey ShotScience you guys are awesome! But everyone has been waiting for your next video, and we all want to see it badly. it has been a long time so can you guys put the next video soon? I cant wait to see it.

dark: We believe that players dip because they are not ready to shoot the ball. They do not have foot rhythm and are using the dip motion to buy time for their feet to get ready for the shot. If you notice Chase’s shots in the clips, he is foot ready and everything is up rhythm and the shot is away very fast. He preps is footwork before he catches the ball, therefore he doesn’t need to buy any time. Check it out. Def. has less time to contest the shot also.

And Tom and Chase, y do ppl have the habit of dipping? like i mean what does it do? why do so many ppl do it? may i ask?

    i needed this. thanks!

  23. jumpman3210on 20 Mar 2009 at 10:57 pm

I see. I thought dipping meant everything including the legs. I thought that you wanted us to shoot like Ray Allen who seems to be in a straight motion with little or no dipping of his legs.

  24. ShotScienceon 20 Mar 2009 at 10:57 pm

That’s the idea! Dip legs for their power but, not the ball!

  25. jumpman3210on 20 Mar 2009 at 10:57 pm

    ShotScience

What about dipping of the legs and not the ball. For example like Derek Fisher.
