Of course, even if they did go easy on him, I’ll second the point that someone made before: he still had to make the shots (I don’t see how you can call scoring 20 points in three minutes and going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc “a mockery of athleticism,” under any circumstances). And yeah, it was a fluke, but so what? You could say that George Mason’s run to the Final Four in 2006 was a fluke, too. The improbability of both of those is part of what makes them great sports stories.
People keep talking about the other team (Spencerport) not defending him specifically because he was handicapped. Is it a known fact that they did that? I rather doubt it. Sure, watching the video, you can see that he isn’t facing the toughest defense in the world, but given that Spencerport was already down by 20 points when he came into the game, my hunch is that their defense just isn’t that good, and that’s all there is to it.

A great story that deserves every bit of recognition that it received if not more. He genuinely loves the game of basketball enough to go through being a manager for 3 years. He deserved his 15 minutes and I’m glad he got it.
